Frondizi had won the 1958 election with Peronist support in exchange for promises to legalize Peronism, a bargain that enraged anti-Peronist officers who repeatedly issued ultimatums and mounted risings, subjecting his presidency to dozens of military planteos. The period also saw a wave of nationalist and Peronist unrest, and 1960 fell within the government's counterinsurgency Plan Conintes.
Any coup attempt in October 1960 came within that turbulence and did not unseat Frondizi at that time, though the accumulating military pressure finally forced his overthrow in March 1962, after Peronists won provincial elections he had permitted.
